Summary: A wife was ordered to pay to her husband a lump sum of 300,000 out of non-matrimonial assets by way of financial remedy where that sum, together with the transfer of four investment properties in joint names and the husband’s pensions, would be sufficient to meet his housing and income needs. Although the net effect of the order was to leave the husband with less than 29 per cent of the total asset pool, such a large departure from the equality of total assets was amply justified because the wife had made large financial contributions from family gifts received before and during the marriage.
